Challenges in the Design and Operation of High Pressure Combustion Test Rigs

EFRI Technical Meeting

Cardiff University Gas Turbine Research Centre, Port Talbot, Wales

Location: Cardiff University
Website: http://www.calendar.ifrf.net/event.html?id=343

Contact information: Neil Fricker

Available documentation:

This meeting, which was to have taken place on Wednesday 21 April, has been postponed to Tuesday 19 October and precedes TOTeM 34 which was also postponed.

EFRI - the IFRF's European Flame Research Initiative - currently comprises an informal network of owners and users of combustion test rigs, facilitated by the IFRF. This EFRI technical meeting is part of a programme of  EFRI technical exchange meetings focussing on the techniques of operating and making measurements in  specific categories of combustion test rigs rather than on the scientific results achieved with the rigs.

The topic of the meeting, which is  organised by the  IFRF and Cardiff University in association with TOTeM 34, is "Challenges in High Pressure Combustion Testing".

Below are the relevant details.  A printable brochure may also be downloaded from this site - see link above.  (Please instruct your printer to print both sides and Z fold the result!)

  • Date: Tuesday 19 October 2010
  • Time: 14.00 - 17.00 pm (a buffet lunch will be served - please request when registering)
  • Venue: Margam Room, Gas Turbine Research Centre (GRTC), Port Talbot, U.K. (Located near M4 Motorway, between Cardiff and Swansea. Parking available onsite.  Details will be supplied on registration.  Nearest airport Cardiff.)
  • Agenda: The meeting will seek to facilitate the exchange of practical experience with operating high pressure combustion test rigs. Discussion points:

o Design and Operation of High Pressure Combustion Test Rigs (Introduction by GRTC)
o Pressure scaling (how to design tests/use data at one pressure to cover operation at different pressures)
o Diagnostic techniques  - both non-intrusive and intrusive

  • Fees: The meeting will be hosted by Cardiff University's GRTC. There will be no fee for participation
  • Record:  Issues and actions to be addressed by the IFRF will be recorded as bullet points only.  The meeting record will be emailed to participants, and published via EFRI web pages, accessible to all IFRF Members.  They will also be posted as a message attachment on the IFRF's EFRI Forum for access by all the EFRI community. The meeting outcome will not be available in the public domain.

The meeting will be of interest to those who own or operate high pressure combustion test rigs, and wish to share their experiences of the practical aspects of rig ownership and operation.  It is open to all  EFRI participants.

The meeting will not be suitable for those who wish to present results of their research activities.  These should be contributed at the TOTeM 34 Poster session.
